Teaching and learning for a sustainable future: Citizenship education
According to UNESCO, developing citizenship skills in young people is one of the keys to ensuring a sustainable future. UNESCO’s definition of citizenship skills includes:
• A willingness to investigate issues in the local, school and wider community.
• A readiness to recognize social, economic, ecological and political dimensions of issues needed to resolve
them.
• The ability to analyze issues and to participate in action aimed at achieving a sustainable future.
