New Evidence That Teaching Social and Emotional Skills to Inner-City Students Can Contribute to Their Academic Achievement
This research study found that students who participated in an enhanced social-emotional learning program were more likely than those in a control group to "achieve basic proficiency in reading, writing and math" on standardized tests. The research took place in an inner-city school system, where two thirds of the students were eligible for free/subsidized lunch program and 90% were of African American or Hispanic/Latinx American heritage.
